Raise the Roof
Help Canterbury Food Bank raise £25,000 to protect the lifeline our community depends on
We have just one month to raise the roof — and we need your help.
Canterbury Food Bank is facing an urgent challenge. The roof of our warehouse is leaking, and we have just one month to raise the £25,000 needed to carry out essential repairs.
Without a watertight roof, the building that helps us keep food flowing to people in crisis is at risk. We cannot afford to wait, and we cannot do this alone. That’s why we are launching our Raise the Roof campaign, calling on supporters, businesses and the community to help us protect this vital service.
There is some good news. Half the £25,000 we need — £12,500 — has already been promised to us. But there is a catch: we will only receive that money if we can raise a matching £12,500 ourselves by November 15th.
That means every donation we receive towards the campaign will help us unlock an equally valuable contribution. It is a remarkable opportunity to make our supporters’ generosity go twice as far, but the deadline is fast approaching. We need to act now. This is not simply a building maintenance problem. Our warehouse is at the heart of everything we do, helping us receive, store and distribute the food that thousands of people rely on.
We need a safe, dry and secure place to keep that operation running.
In the past 12 months, Canterbury Food Bank has delivered 14,917 emergency food parcels, containing enough food to make 134,253 meals. Behind every parcel is a person, a family or a household facing difficult circumstances. It might be someone who has lost their job, a parent trying to feed their children, or a pensioner struggling to make ends meet. These are not just numbers on a page. They represent people who need our help, and people we are determined not to let down.
David Holt, Chair of Trustees at Canterbury Food Bank, said: “When someone comes to us in desperate need, they are not asking for luxuries.”
“They are asking for enough food to get through the day. We are here to help people hold on to their dignity when life becomes difficult.”
“For many families, we are the difference between a decent life and an empty plate. We cannot allow a leaking roof to put that lifeline at risk.”
“We have a responsibility to protect the service our community depends on.”
We could use our financial reserves to pay for the repairs, but those reserves are there for a reason. They help us buy food, respond to emergencies and make sure we can continue supporting people facing hunger. Every pound we spend on the roof from those funds is a pound that cannot be used to help someone who has nowhere else to turn.
David Holt added: “Our reserves are there to help us feed people, not to pay for problems that our community can help us solve together.”
“We want every possible pound to go towards making sure people have food on the table. That is why this appeal matters so much.”
Please donate today and help us reach our £12,500 matching target by November 15th.
Every pound counts. Every meal matters. Every person deserves a full plate.
